Officials in Florence County, South Carolina are holding a press conference updating the public with the latest on the shooting of seven police officers yesterday.
The press conference is tentatively scheduled for approximately 1:30 p.m. ET.
One suspect is in custody and a Florence police officer is deceased after eight people, seven of which were law enforcement officers, were shot on Ashton Drive in the Vintage Place neighborhood of Florence, SC on Wednesday evening.
The shooter has been identified as Fred Hopkins, according to a senior law enforcement official with direct knowledge of the investigation, CBS News’ David Begnaud reports.
Hopkins, 74, is a disabled Vietnam veteran and disbarred lawyer who has faced several charges in recent years.
